About

Green Fish is a Brazilian music group based in Boston. Vocalist Teresa Ines, pianist Gilson Schachnik, bassist Fernando Huergo, and drummer Alberto Netto are Green Fish. The band’s fresh perspective blends craft, creativity and Brazilian tradition. From lively samba classics to sultry bossa nova, Green Fish delivers a unique musical experience with passion and elegance.

Teresa Ines, who was named a great Latin diva by the Boston Globe newspaper started her career in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where a rich blend of African and Portuguese-derived styles, such as the earthy, percussive samba and its jazzier, coolly intellectual cousin, bossa nova, are constantly fusing, branching out and evolving. After being awarded with a scholarship to attend the famed Berklee School of Music she moved to Boston and became“ the most well-known Brazilian vocalist” on New England’s scene (World Rhythm) . Ines has grafted specific American jazz influences onto her inclusive yet eclectic vocabulary of Brazilian melodies and rhythms. Her warmly crooning voice with its clarinet-like overtones, which has been compared to that of her great countrywoman, Nana Caymmi, is further enhanced by sophisticated phrasing, an elegant delivery and a magnetically charismatic, unselfconsciously sensual stage presence.

Gilson Schachnik was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, toured the country with Rosa Maria and Patricia Marx in addition to recording jingles for BASF, Playboy, and TV Cultura. After receiving a scholarship in 1990, Gilson moved to Boston to attend Berklee and graduated in 1996 in Jazz Composition. Since then, Gilson has performed with Al Jarreau, Peter Erskine, Harvey Mason, Claudio Roditi, Bill Pierce, Miguel Zenón, and Antonio Sanchez, among others. Gilson joined the Berklee faculty in 2002 and wrote the book Beginning Ear Training (Berklee Press). In addition to being an active performer in the Boston area, Gilson has been a member of Berklee’s audition team and has done auditions and given masterclasses in Canada, Brazil, and Palestine.

Fernando Huergo is a bassist, composer, and educator from Cordoba, Argentina, now based in Boston. He has recorded over 140 albums, including 11 as a leader. Fernando has toured and given clinics in North, Central and South America, Europe and Asia. He has performed with the bands of Luciana Souza, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Danilo Perez, Marta Gomez, Dave Valentín, Hendrick Meurkens, Dave Liebman, Dave Samuels, Joe Beck, and many others. He has played alongside great musicians such as Tom Harrell, Billy Pierce, Jerry Bergonzi, Dave Kikoski, Joey Calderazzo, Paquito D’Rivera, Randy Brecker, George Garzone, Rick Margitza, Kenny Werner, and Dafnis Prieto.
